The Rescue Squad has the only certified Large Animal Rescue Team in the Lowcountry. The Large Animal Rescue Team has the capability to remove any type of animal from any predicament they can get into, which they do often.
With the outskirts of the county being very rural and littered with farms this team stays busy assisting when emergencies occur.
This team also deploys regularly to other counties for mutual aid request based on the equipment and specialized training the team holds.
This team is all trained in Technical Large Animal Emergency Response (TLAER) which includes Practical Considerations, Behavioral Understanding, Specialty Equipment, Techniques, Methodologies and Tactics behind the safe extrication of a live large animal from entrapments (trailer wrecks, ditches, mud, barn fires) in local emergencies and disaster areas.
