About the Squad
How long has the rescue squad been active?
The Rescue Squad has been serving since October of 1962.
Is the Rescue Squad a Nonprofit organization?
Yes. The Rescue Squad is a volunteer-based non-profit organization. Our registered name is Charleston County Volunteer Rescue Squad and our nonprofit EIN is 23-7415015.
Why does Charleston County provide money for the Volunteer Rescue Squad if there are no salaries to pay?
The funds provided through Charleston County Government help the Squad purchase much-needed and very specialized lifesaving equipment, such as fire retardant rescue gear, vehicles and air bags for heavy lifting and the “Jaws of Life.”

When you make an online donation to the Rescue Squad, your credit card information is NOT stored; it is passed to our Payment Processor via a secure connection.
Can I make a donation via check?
Definitely. You can mail a check made out to Charleston County Volunteer Rescue Squad to our address.

Do I need to have a Veterinarian when requesting large animal rescue support?
Yes. Rescue Squad members are not Veterinarians and therefore only work under the direction of an on-scene Large Animal Veterinarian.
Membership
Who or what is a member?
Members are essentially volunteers of the Rescue Squad who have met the criteria to both join and maintain good standing.
How does one become a member of the Rescue Squad?
In order to join, a candidate must meet the eligibility requirements and attend at least 2 business meetings. Learn more about how to become a member.
